A Spider

In yesterday's post I commented on the fact that I enjoy photographing insects.  The frame below is another instance of such interest.  This one, however is a great depiction of why I enjoy it so much- the science geek in me really gets to shine.  This crab spider, Araneida thomisidae, can be found with either white or yellow coloring depending on the flower it calls home.  If this one were to move to a white flower, its coloring would begin to change and it would be devoid of yellow within days.

This photograph asks the viewer to consider the spider's world.  It has adapted over time to camouflage impeccably with its host plant- a characteristic necessary to avoid predation and increase its success as a hunter.  I spotted it as it was roaming the petals of this flower.  I do not know why it was traversing across the part of the flower on which it is most noticeable, perhaps it had just attempted a kill, but its excursion made for the opportunity to take an interesting photograph.

I like to go outside and meander slowly or simply sit down and observe nature's productions.  That is when I notice the most interesting of subjects.

The original image is on the bottom.  The top one is undersaturated- which is opposite of the effects applied to the tree several posts ago.  Each level of saturation produces a quite different mood.  The top image is more gloomy and negative while the bottom image invokes more of a cheerful and positive emotion.  Which one do you prefer?  Clicking on the images will enlarge them to their downloaded size.
