Light is one of if not the most important element used in photography. The quality of light falling on a scene makes or breaks a photograph. This image was captured in ambient light. It is a successful study of light because it can proudly be displayed in black and white, color, or sepia. A photograph's success is not measured solely on its ability to transfer between these three tonal ranges however. Many images require nice lighting to accentuate color and it is the color, rather than the contrast, that makes an image successful or not.
