A Koala Monoglogue

Though it’s not my type of life, I can see how many people envy the daily lifestyle of the koala bear.  All they do all day is eat eucalyptus, get high off of it and sleep.  Every once and a while they mate, cuddle youngsters, and climb trees.  As one of Australia’s biggest icons, what does this say about the country’s people I wonder?

Just kidding.  Australians are actually putting much effort into protecting these little guys, as their wild populations are rapidly diminishing.  They are often killed by domestic pets, bogans (red necks), and cars.  Australia jumped on the wildlife corridor bandwagon much faster than we did in the States and, though they have overland corridors, they also have netted bridges hanging from the tree tops on either side of the roadways as safe passage ways for koalas and other species.  The only issue with these areas is that they become hotspots for predators to nab the koalas once they’ve made it across.  Conservation is never perfect and it’s definitely not easy.

Because of their famous image in Australia, and because I find koalas utterly hysterical, I thought I’d show you their major daily activity.  Here is the monologue of the koala…
The lovely sleeper.

The claw.

The slouch.

The belly spread.

The head hold.

The prayer.
