Sex
Taking this a little step further into the realm of inappropriate discussion, blushing, and gasping, does someone's sexual preferences determine any of these identities? Many would argue, yes. If someone desires men then they themselves are usually women or feminine and vice versa. That is not always the case though. Very feminine women like women and very masculine men like men. What perplexes me even more, however, are those that like both. Where do they lie along the identity spectrum? How about those individuals out there who have no interest in any sexual pursuits? Are they just biological screw ups who will not be successful because they will never reproduce? (With the human population nearing seven billion, I think asexual people are our saviors.)
Whatever sex or gender someone might comfortably identify with, sexual acts provide a type of medicine, elixir, drug that is hard to come by anywhere else. (Asexual people seem to have a tolerance or resistance to the effects of these situations. There are also some of us who go through phases between being sexual and asexual- life is funny that way.) Whether by oneself, someone they don't know, with someone they just met, someone they're getting to know, or someone they've spent a lifetime with, sex (WHEN SAFE AND CONSENSUAL) is healthy for the mind, the body, and in some instances can even be for the spirit. Just like a flower, sex is biologically necessary. However, that doesn't mean that it can't also be appreciated for its exquisite beauty and the pleasure it evokes in our senses.
