Perching

Sometimes the world starts moving so fast that I must sit down somewhere to watch it rush by or risk being swept up and carried off in its wake.  The hostel in San Francisco had a fire escape which could be reached by climbing out the window.  I found myself sitting here frequently to watch the cars drive by and the people pass below.  Aside from being necessary to relax, these moments also allow me to wonder about all of the different people out there.  Where are they all going?  What are their lives like?  Are they happy?  Might our paths cross again and we become great friends; then, one day we begin talking about a March day in San Francisco and realize we were in the same place at the same time?  The world is much smaller than we think and we are even smaller than we could ever imagine.  What does the world care about a wandering girl perching outside a hostel in San Francisco?
