Obsidian

Exploring one day, a friend and I found this immense obsidian deposit.  Interestingly, many of the shards gleamed rainbows under the right light like oil slicks.  And that's probably what it was- oil mingled with the rock as the obsidian was created.  I like these shots because there are two very interesting rocks in them.  The obsidian and then the lichen covered rock it sits on.  Lichen is beautiful both visually and biologically.  It is a symbiotic relationship between algae and fungus that allows that allows the hydrophilic algae to survive out of water.
I couldn't decide if I liked the vertical or horizontal profile better so they are both here.
